Bebe Rexha, an American singer, songwriter, and record producer, has released two mega-hit studio albums: ‘Expectations’ (2017) and ‘Better Mistakes’ (2021). She has also won several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Dance Recording of her chart-topper single, ‘Meant to Be’. Recently, at her concert on June 18, 2023, she was assaulted in the middle of performing a song. Now, breaking her silence on this event, she has taken to social media. Here’s what we know so far:
Who was the concertgoer that assaulted Bebe Rexha?
While Bebe Rexha was performing the bridge of her hit single ‘Meant to Be’ at her June 18 concert, she got hit on the face with a phone thrown by one of her attending fans. The incident took place at The Rooftop at Pier 17 in New York City. She immediately fell to the ground in pain and crew members rushed to her aid, halting the concert. The concertgoer was later identified as a 27-year-old man named Nicholas Malvagna, and was arrested and charged with assault, being released on bail afterwards. He is scheduled to appear in court on July 11, 2023. The D.A’s office reported that Nicholas flung the phone at her allegedly with malicious intent because he wanted to see if it would hit her, as it would’ve been “funny” to him. After this, his attorney claimed a whole different story.
.”As a fan, Mr. Malvagna’s sole intention was to have Ms. Rexha take photos with his phone, and return it as a keepsake. It was never his intention to injure Ms. Rehxa.”
Todd A Spodek, Nicholas Malvagna’s lawyer
What does Bebe Rexha have to say about this incident?
Bebe Rexha was injured pretty badly since the impact of the phone ended up causing bruising and a small wound around her eye area. A while later, Rexha took to social media to let her fans know that she was doing okay. She posted a photo of her bruised eye, and wrote, “I’m good. I got hit with a phone at my show last night, and I’m so grateful that it wasn’t worse. Thank you to everyone who reached out with concern.” Rexha’s fans were absolutely appalled and dismayed by the incident. They showered her with messages of support, a few of them even expressed their rage saying that “people don’t know how to f**king act.” Even influencer Bella Poarch stopped to send Bebe her love and a speedy recovery.
This incident is definitely a sobering reminder that even celebrities are not immune to violence and that it is never acceptable to throw objects at people, regardless of whether you think it is harmless or not. We all hope that this incident will serve as a wake-up call to others and that it will deter future acts of violence against performers.
