Cruel Intentions Reboot Releasing in 2024, TV Series This Time!

New generation, new Cruel Intentions. The 1999 Roger Kumble thriller movie, Cruel Intentions is getting rebooted by Amazon as a TV series this time. Last month it was revealed that Amazon has ordered a 8 episode series of Cruel Intentions to be developed for Freevee but it is plausible for it to be moved to Prime Video. Now that the show is moving forward, the main cast list has been released, with production set to begin in Canada this month, aiming for a release in 2024.

Main cast list for Cruel Intentions reboot:

Sean Patrick Thomas played a character named ‘Ronald Clifford’ in the original 1999 movie and he’s back for the series to play ‘Professor Chadwick’. Thomas is the only cast member from the film that is confirmed to appear in the series as of now. The other cast members for the reboot are Sarah Catherine Hook as Caroline, Zac Burgess as Lucien, Khobe Clarke as Scott, Brooke Lena Johnson as Beatrice, Sara Silva as CeCe, John Harlan Kim as Blaise, and Myra Molloy as Annie. The cast also includes Laura Benanti and Jon Tenney, who have been given recurring guest star roles.

“Two ruthless step siblings who would go to great lengths to stay on top of the social pyramid. In this case, their focus is the Greek life hierarchy at an elite Washington, D.C. college. After a brutal hazing incident threatens the entire Panhellenic system, they’ll do anything to preserve their power and reputations, even attempt to seduce the daughter of the Vice President of the United States.”

Logline revealed, pretty close to the original 1999 film

How alike will the movie and the show be?

The original Cruel Intentions was based on ‘Les Liaisons dangereuses’ (also known as ‘Dangerous Liaisons’) by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos. It has been revealed that while the show is mostly set to follow the original plotline, fans shouldn’t expect a lot of similarity. One example is that the setting has been moved from a New York City high school to an elite college in Washington D.C with some character names changing as well. Fans are excited to see what Amazon makes of this classic!
