When it comes to live-action remakes, Disney has reached an unexpected low point. Although not everyone in the world is a fan of Disney, it is well known that they have consistently produced classic hits that continue to delight audiences today.
However, it appears that Disney is attempting to recapture the same momentum that they had with films such as the original Cinderella, Mulan, and Sleeping Beauty. With this in mind, they decided to remake many of their classic films in live-action format. While some of these have been surprise hits, such as Maleficent: Mistress of Evil or Cruella, others have failed miserably.
Peter Pan & Wendy has a measly 13% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes.

While the critics’ score of 62% shines a brighter light, it appears that Disney fans are tired of these live-action remakes that continue to sap all of the actual fun from these classics. That’s not to say there weren’t some improvements made in this remake.
As Disney worked hard to remove all racial stereotypes from the original Peter Pan, which was full of things that would not be acceptable today. However, as evidenced by the reviews, this was insufficient.
There was nothing from the past that we needed to hang on to when it came to Tiger Lily. The version of the character in the movie, who is so strong and vibrant, it’s incredible.

Disney doesn’t appear to be done with live-action remakes.

You’d think that this flop would cause them to reconsider their strategy, but another live-action remake of The Little Mermaid is already in the works. While early screenings indicate that people enjoyed the film, we won’t know for sure until it hits theaters and Disney+ at the end of May.
