Disney+ has just unveiled the first look images for its upcoming original TV series The Artful Dodger. The Australian production will star Thomas Brodie-Sangster, David Thewlis, and Maia Mitchell. Along with the stunning visuals, the platform also announced that viewers will be able to stream the show on November 2
What is ‘The Artful Dodger’ about?
Largely described as an irreverent take on Charles Dickens’ iconic novel, Oliver Twist, Disney+’s latest series, The Artful Dodger is set in the 1850s in Australia. Following his youth years as a skillful pickpocket, Jack Dawkins, now an adult, has transitioned his abilities to the work of a surgeon. However, his past reemerges with the arrival of Fagin, who draws him back into the world of crime. Meanwhile, a determined, young woman named Maia Mitchell, who is striving to become the first female surgeon of the colony has captured his heart.

The original series is a collaborative effort by James McNamara, David Maher, and David Taylor, co-produced by Curio Pictures (represented by executive producer Jo Porter) and Beach Road Pictures (represented by executive producers David Maher and David Taylor). The Artful Dodger also features directors like Corrie Chen (New Gold Mountain), Gracie Otto (Heartbreak High), and Jeffrey Walker (Young Rock) as the set-up director. The writing team consists of James McNamara, Andrew Knight, Vivienne Walshe, and Dan Knight, with Miranda Tapsell serving as a story consultant.
