Sadly, it’s time for cinematic dominoes to start falling as studios adjust their 2024 theatrical release schedules in response to the ongoing actor’s strike. Two heavily-anticipated projects have been delayed, including the one starring Jonathan Majors which has been removed from the calendar entirely, amid legal troubles for the actor.

What projects have shifted on Disney’s 2024 slate?
To the shock of it’s fans, Disney declared this Friday that its live-action Snow White film, starring Rachel Zegler, will be delayed by a year, from March 22, 2024 to March 21, 2025. The film, formally titled Disney’s Snow White, is one of the studio’s biggest releases of the year and one of the highlights of its spring schedule. Pixar’s March animation tentpole Elio, meanwhile, has been moved back by more than a year, from March 1, 2024 to June 13, 2025.

In a move unconnected to the current strike, Disney and Searchlight have withdrawn Jonathan Majors’ Magazine Dreams from the December 2023 calendar. In light of Majors’ legal problems, the ruling was widely anticipated. He is scheduled to go on trial in New York on November 29 for misdemeanor harassment and assault charges. The film debuted at Sundance in January and was regarded as an awards season centerpiece for Majors, who plays a budding bodybuilder.
Why have Disney’s ‘Snow White’ & ‘Elio’ been delayed?

The calendar alterations are reportedly occurring more often as the actors’ strike has gone past its 100th day. Earlier this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger and other Hollywood executives reminded SAG-AFTRA that the deadline for deciding which films to push is almost upon them if the two sides cannot reach an agreement. According to multiple reports, the deadline is the first week of November, if not November 1. If the strike discussions fail, expect further release date modifications in the coming days, particularly for 2024 summer films.
