Disney Has Announced A New TV Series Based On ‘Inside Out’ Along With An Official Sequel!

Pixar’s hit abstract film ‘Inside Out’ from 2015 apparently set itself up for a sequel, and now Disney+ has also revealed that they will be continuing the franchise with a TV series. This is exciting news for fans of ‘Inside Out’, including many of those who have reached out to Pete Docter (chief creative officer of Pixar) to tell him how this film changed their lives.

What do we know about ‘Inside Out’ as a TV series?

Puck has reported that Pixar is developing a new series based on ‘Inside Out’ exclusively for the streaming platform, Disney+. According to the report, the need for this animated series came to due to Disney’s pressure to increase the content they put out. The project is essentially described as “big-budget” although there are no further details, nor more official announcements from Disney at this time. If the series moves forward, it would mark the second ‘Inside Out’ project in the works at Disney, with ‘Inside Out 2’ being the first. We do have cause to believe that just as ‘Inside Out’ set itself up for ‘Inside Out 2’ with the showing of the puberty button, similarly ‘Inside Out 2’ could set up a basis for a TV show.

What are the details of ‘Inside Out 2’ the sequel?

Disney officially announced ‘Inside Out ‘ at the D23 Expo in September of 2022 and the release date is said to be June 14, 2024. Comedian Amy Poehler is confirmed to return to ‘Inside Out 2’ as the personified emotion Joy inside Riley’s head, but she is the only returning cast we are aware of. Mindy Kahling who played Disgust has reported not being involved in the sequel. Poehler and Pixar’s Pete Doctor have both revealed that the sequel will follow Riley as an older teenager, and will introduce new characters (emotions). This movie will be the first feature film that is directed by Kelsey Mann, who has worked as a story supervisor previously for ‘Monsters University’ and ‘The Good Dinosaur’. As opposed to this, ‘Inside Out’ was directed by Pete Docter himself. Whether Pixar can capture the same magic as the original ‘Inside Out’ in ‘Inside Out 2’ and it’s TV series still remains to be seen.

Fans are expected to hear more official announcements and details on these movies from Disney soon.
