HBO Dominates Emmy Nominations with ‘Succession’ and ‘The Last of Us’ Leading the Pack

The 75th Primetime Emmy Awards nominations were announced on July 12, 2023, and HBO turned out to be the big winner. The network dominated the nominations for the Emmy Awards, with Succession and The Last of Us almost tied for the most noms, with The White Lotus coming in third. Ted Lasso‘s most recent season followed up behind, hand in hand with Euphoria.

Succession is having it’s moment in the spotlight with the most Emmy nominations this year, and rightfully so! The show received a record-breaking 27 Emmy nominations this year, including three “record-setting” nods for Best Actor in a Drama Series for Brian Cox, Jeremy Strong, and Kieran Culkin. The Last of Us came in second with 24 nominations, including Best Drama Series and acting nods for Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey. The White Lotus season 2 received 23 nominations, including five for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

What are a few other shows from different streamers to get the most Emmy nominations?

Ted Lasso from Apple TV+ and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel from Amazon Prime Video both received a strong number of Emmy nominations, with 21 and 14 noms, respectively. The most recent season of Ted Lasso (which is also speculated to be it’s last) was particularly well-received, with nominations for Jason Sudeikis, Brendan Hunt, Brett Goldstein, and Hannah Waddingham. The Prime Video program also received nominations for Rachel Brosnahan, Tony Shalhoub, Alex Borstein, and Michael Zegen.

The Bear, a new FX/Hulu series about a young chef who takes over his family’s sandwich shop, received 13 nominations for its first season. Beef and Dahmer, two Netflix limited series, also received 13 nominations each. Beef is a comedy-drama about two rival beef-jerky companies, while Dahmer is a biographical series about the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Aside from these Netflix’s Wednesday, a comedy-horror series about the teenage daughter of the Addams Family, received 12 nominations with Jenna Ortega being nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance as the titular character.
