What did Jamie Foxx say about his medical condition in his Instagram video?

The Oscar winner commented in his emotional video, “I cannot even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back. I went through something that I thought I would never, ever go through.” Thanking fans for their prayers and messages, he again added that he “did go to hell and back. My road to recovery had some potholes as well but I’m coming back, and I’m able to work.”

Foxx also used the opportunity to debunk misconceptions about his health that had formed as a result of his family’s reticence. “Now you know by being quiet sometimes things get out of hand,” he continued, referring to individuals who said he was “blind” and “paralyzed,” which he denied. The actor also talked about why he hadn’t issued any updates on his health for so long, saying: “I went through something that I thought I would never ever go through. I know a lot of people were waiting and you know wanting to hear updates but to be honest with you I just didn’t want you to see me like that man.”

“I just didn’t want you to see me like that. I want you to see me laughing, having a good time, partying, cracking a joke, doing a movie, a television show. I just didn’t want you to see me with tubes running out of me and trying to figure out if I was going to make it through.”

In the Saturday Instagram post detailing his medical scare, Foxx, 55, praised his younger sister Deidra Dixon and daughter Corinne Marie, 29, for their “protection” throughout his recuperation and for keeping his struggles private. “To be honest with you, my sister Deidra Dixon, my daughter Corinne Marie saved my life,” the actor further commented. “So today, and to God, to a lot of great medical people, I’m able to leave you this video. I cannot tell you how great it feels to have your family kick in in such a way,” he continued, adding, “And y’all know they kept it airtight, didn’t let nothing out. They protected me and that’s what I hope that everyone could have and moments like these.”
