Sad news has emerged as Alaska State Troopers announced the untimely passing of Jim Tweto. The 68-year-old Tweto, along with his companion Shane Reynolds, a hunting and fishing guide from Orofino, Idaho, were involved in a small plane crash near the coastal village of Shaktoolik.

According to the trooper’s statement, witnesses reported that the Cessna 180 aircraft took off but failed to gain altitude, resulting in the unfortunate crash. Responding promptly to the SOS activation and subsequent reports of the accident, troopers from Nome were able to recover the bodies.

The National Transportation Safety Board is now conducting an investigation into this tragic incident.

After the heartbreaking news broke, Jim Tweto’s daughter, Ariel, turned to Instagram to share a heartfelt message in memory of her father.

“I didn’t think anything could hurt this bad… And I’d take any other type of pain if he could just land today. My dad and a wonderful hunting guide and friend of our family passed away this afternoon in his 180. He died doing what he truly loved and is now with Uncle Ron up there soaring.”
