Josephine Chaplin made her acting debut in one of her father’s last films, Limelight (1952), appearing as a child in the opening scene. In this somewhat-autobiographical project, she was one of five of Charlie Chaplin’s children featured. She also had brief appearances in her father’s final film, A Countess from Hong Kong (1967), alongside her sisters Geraldine and Victoria.

Josephine Chaplin: An Accomplished Actress in Iconic Films

Josephine Chaplin’s breakthrough came in 1972 when she landed a significant role in Pier Paolo Pasolini’s adaptation of The Canterbury Tales, portraying May, the unfaithful wife of Sir January in “The Merchant’s Tale.” The same year, she starred alongside Laurence Harvey in Menahem Golan’s Escape to the Sun.

Her remarkable career continued with notable roles in Georges Franju’s Nuits Rouges (1974), Jack the Ripper alongside Klaus Kinski (1976), The Bay Boy alongside Liv Ullmann and Kiefer Sutherland’s screen debut (1984), and Claude Chabrol’s Cop au Vin (1985).
