Netflix has revealed four new productions as it enhances its Australia slate of original offerings, including the movie Love is in the Air. The revised slate also encompasses two series – Desert King (working title), an Outback Western produced in collaboration with Easy Tiger and Ronde, and The Survivors, a crime mystery series co-produced with Tony Ayres Productions. Documentary film Onefour: Against All Odds is the fourth announced project that has fans hyped! Here’s what we know:
‘Love is in the Air’ and ‘Onefour: Against All Odds’: Release Dates and Synopsis
Love is in the Air is set to premiere on Netflix on September 28, and will be starring Delta Goodrem as a seaplane pilot who falls for the man commissioned to sink her business. The movie, which was shot in 8K Vista Vision in Queensland’s scenic Whitsundays islands, is directed by Adrian Powers and co-produced with Jaggi Entertainment. Joshua Sasse, Steph Tisdell, and Roy Billing also star in the film!
On the other hand, Onefour: Against All Odds is a documentary film that delves into the controversy surrounding Australian drill rap group Onefour. The band, consisting of Sydney-based, Pacific Islander members, had their sold-out national tour canceled by a police task force for fears that their music would end up inciting violence. The film, directed by Gabriel Gasparinatos and produced by Entropico and Stranger Than Fiction, has fans eagerly waiting for the release date that has not yet been announced.
“Having seen success both here in Australian and around the world with films like Run Rabbit Run, True Spirit, The Stranger and A Perfect Pairing, as well as series such as Wellmania, Heartbreak High and Surviving Summer that have racked up millions of view hours and featured high in our Top 10 lists both locally and globally, we hope to continue to create space for Australian stories to be told and succeed.”
Que Minh Luu (Netflix Australia and New Zealand content director)
What is ‘Desert King’ and ‘The Survivors’ about?
Desert King is a wild Australian succession tale about rich miners, traditional landowners, cowboys, and desert criminals contending for a cattle ranch the size of Wales, created by Tim Lee and Ben Davies. Greg McLean is directing, with Paul Ranford producing and Ben Davies, Ian Collie, and Rob Gibson attached as executive producers for the project.
The Survivors is an adaption of Australian novelist Jane Harper’s book of the same name, set in a Tasmanian beach village dealing with unresolved guilt and grief after three young people passed away during a major storm. Tony Ayres Productions is co-producing the film, the company being a subsidiary of Universal International Studios which is further owned by the Universal Studio Group.
