Captivating storytelling and extraordinary performances define the Hulu series “Tiny Beautiful Things” which weaves together the lives of its characters through time and emotion.
During the early days of shooting “Tiny Beautiful Things,” the cast gathered for a workshop led by renowned acting coach Kim Gillingham, known for her work on projects like “Honey Boy” and “King Richard.”
Sarah Pidgeon And Kathryn Hahn’s Exceptional Bond As Clare Pierce
At its core, the show demanded a unique approach: multiple performers embodying each character, bridging past and present. Among these remarkable actors, Sarah Pidgeon and Kathryn Hahn stand out, both portraying Clare Pierce, an analogue of the renowned writer Cheryl Strayed.
However, through a unique blend of talent and intuition, Pidgeon and Hahn developed an extraordinary connection, despite never sharing a scene.
“Kathryn and I have completely different life experiences. But by bringing ourselves to it, there was a commonality — that live-wire element that Clare has, whether she’s 20 or 49. We developed a physical vocabulary.”
Sarah Pidgeon
The actors found subtle yet profound ways to express their characters. For Clare Pierce, played by Sarah Pidgeon, and her warmhearted mother, portrayed by Merritt Wever, a shared gesture of rubbing the chest became a tangible manifestation of anxiety and annoyance. This attention to detail adds authenticity to the poignant limited series, based on Cheryl Strayed’s essay collection.
As the story unfolds, Clare grapples with her longing for her late mother, her strained marriage, and her new role as an anonymous advice columnist. Sarah’s admiration for co-star Kathryn Hahn and the inspiring source material made her performance even more impactful, bringing the unique universe , created by Liz Tigelaar, to life.
Sarah Pidgeon’s Journey
Sarah Pidgeon’s acting journey began at the Interlochen Center for the Arts in Michigan, where she attended summer camp. After earning a theater degree from Carnegie Mellon in 2018, she moved to New York to pursue a career in acting.
Currently, she has just finished filming the Vertical movie Lazareth alongside Ashley Judd. However, it is her experience on Tiny Beautiful Things that deeply impacted her, forcing her to confront her own emotions and life journey.
Certainly, Sarah Pidgeon and Kathryn Hahn cultivated a profound connection that transcended their physical presence through which they breathed life into their characters and added a layer of authenticity to the series!
