Stellan Skarsgård to Receive Lifetime Achievement Award at Locarno Film Festival!

Legendary Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård is set to be honored with the Leopard Club Award, a lifetime achievement honor, at this year’s Locarno International Film Festival. This award is annually given to a person “whose work in the film industry has left its mark on the collective imagination”, and Stellan will be joining an incredible list of past honorees which includes Faye Dunaway, Mia Farrow, Adrien Brody, Meg Ryan, Hilary Swank, and Daisy Edgar-Jones.

When will Skarsgård recieve this award?

On August 4, Stellan Skarsgård will receive the Leopard Club Award at a ceremony in Piazza Grande, Locarno (Switzerland). He will also participate in an audience Q&A on August 5. In his honor, Locarno will screen two films: Good Evening, Mr. Wallenberg (1990), in which Skarsgård plays Raoul Wallenberg, and What Remains, a crime drama co-written by Megan Everett-Skarsgård and starring Skarsgård and his son Gustaf (Oppenheimer, Vikings). The directors of both films, Kjell Grede and Ran Huang, will also attend the screenings.

Stellan Skarsgård, 72, has successfully balanced a career in European art house cinema with supporting roles in Hollywood blockbusters. He has worked with acclaimed directors such as Lars von Trier and Hans Petter Moland, and has starred in films like Breaking the Waves, Dancer in the Dark, Dogville, Melancholia, In Order of Disappearance, and Out Stealing Horses. He has also appeared in Pirates of the Caribbean, Mamma Mia!, Thor, and the Avengers movies. Skarsgård played Baron Vladimir Harkonnen in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, and will reprise the role in Dune: Part Two. On the small screen, he won a Golden Globe for his performance in the HBO drama Chernobyl, and recently starred in the Star Wars spinoff Andor for Disney+.
