Euphoria: Star Sydney Sweeney Didn’t Prepare Her Family To Watch Her As Cassie

An American adaptation of the Israeli show of the same name, “Euphoria” has 2 seasons developed for HBO. One of the stars, Sydney Sweeney (playing Cassie) had one of the most sexually explicit roles in this TV series. She explains that she hadn’t quite prepared her family for the shock of seeing her in character when ‘Euphoria’ came out.

What were her family’s reactions?

In a recent interview for Sunday Today, Sydney revealed that while her mother was aware of the content in the show, her father had no idea. She admitted not having prepared her dad for what he was about to witness. He surprised Sydney by sitting down to watch Euphoria, even inviting his parents to watch with him. The actress shares that after a little while he turned the TV off and her father and grandfather got up and walked out! She does mention that her grandmother watched the whole thing and is her biggest fan. Sweeney says she sneaks her grandmother in for cameos on set when she films.

“My mom visited me on set at the time, so she like knew the story and I talked to her a lot about it – my dad didn’t. I didn’t prepare my dad at all. When I talk to my dad, it’s usually not about work. We talk, like, father-daughter conversations.”

More on Euphoria:

Euphoria is directed by Sam Levinson (who is currently directing The Idol) which explains the explicit themes. Aside from Sydney Sweeney, it also features a talented cast including Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Angus Cloud, Maude Apatow, Alexa Demie and Barbie Ferreira. It essentially delves into the lives of a group of high school students as they go through many challenges including drugs, trauma, sex, identity and relationships, basically exploring the darker and more hard-core aspects of adolescence. It has been renewed for a third season, although a premiere date has not been announced yet.
