21 world premiers and two weeks of red carpet roll-outs later, the 76th annual Cannes Film Festival for 2023 comes to an end on May 27! The festival took place in the south of France this year with Swedish filmmaker Ruben \u00d6stlund serving as jury president. The ‘Palme d’Or’ refers to the highest prize that can be awarded at the festival and French director Justine Triet had the honor of taking it home this year! Opened on a note of controversy with ‘Jeanne du Barry’ starring Johnny Depp, Cannes faced alot of criticism, accused of allegedly allowing misogynistic men a platform. The festival closed with a Pixar film called ‘Elemental’.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘Anatomy of a Fall’ by Justine Triet is currently holding the Palme d’Or for this edition of Cannes and with this win, she has become the third female director in the history of the festival to be bestowed with this honor. This film will be released in France across theaters by Le Pacte on the 23rd of August this year. ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ is a French thriller film that was adapted from a screenplay written by Triet and Arthur Harari. It stars Sandra Huller like ‘The Zone of Interest’ which was also a nomination for Palme d’Or. There has been alot of political debate as many people think ‘The Zone of Interest’ should have won instead. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were 21 nominations for Palme d’Or including the winner, ‘Anatomy of a Fall’. Before the announcement, fans had already speculated that the winner would be Justine Triet for her exciting courtroom drama. Some critical favorites included the \u2018The Zone of Interest\u2019 by Jonathan Glazer, and Finish filmmaker Aki Kaurism\u00e4ki\u2019s ‘Fallen Leaves’.
