Disney’s long-awaited third installment in the Tron franchise, Tron: Ares, has added another star to its cast: Jodie Turner-Smith. The Queen & Slim actress will join Jared Leto, Greta Lee, and Evan Peters in the cyber adventure, which is gearing up for an August shoot in Vancouver. Releasing on December 16 this year, the third Tron film has been directed by Joachim Ronning who has also helmed Maleficent: Mistress of Evil and co-directed Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales in the past.
What is Tron: Ares about?
Tron: Ares is the third installment in the Tron franchise, and it is said to be a departure from the previous films in a few key ways. First, while the two previous films were largely set inside the world of computers and programs, Ares is said to focus on the emergence of a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is “not ready for contact.” The film also features a new cast of characters, including Jared Leto as Ares, the manifestation of the sentient program. Leto has been reportedly been attached to the project for several years, and is also executive producing along with Emma Ludbrook through Paradox.
Greta Lee is also playing a leading role as a video game programmer and tech CEO but it is not yet clear what character Jodie Turner-Smith will be playing. Overall, Tron: Ares is shaping up to be a visually stunning and action-packed film that will excite fans of the Tron franchise. It is also the first film in the Tron franchise to be directed by a woman, with the screenplay written by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne.
Who is Jodie Turner-Smith?
Turner-Smith is a British-Jamaican actress who has quickly become one of Hollywood’s most in-demand stars. She made her breakthrough in 2019 with the critically acclaimed film Queen & Slim, in which she starred opposite Daniel Kaluuya. She has since starred in the television series The Last Ship and Without Remorse, starring next in After Yang and White Noise. She is currently filming the upcoming Star Wars series The Acolyte. Jodie was also endlessly praised in the 2022 film The Woman King, and she is a valuable addition to the Tron franchise.
