Six months have passed since British actor Julian Sands vanished into the unforgiving wilderness of Mount Baldy. In that time, the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department and rescue crews have searched the area repeatedly, but to no avail. Now, for the first time, Sands’ family has spoken out, expressing their gratitude to the search parties for their tireless efforts and breaking their silence on the matter.
What did Julian Sands’ family say about this incident?
Renowned for his roles in ‘The Killing Fields’, ‘A Room with a View’, ‘Warlock’, ‘Arachnophobia’, ‘Boxing Helena’, ‘24’, ‘Smallville’, and ‘Banshee’, Julian Sands was 65 years old at the time of his disappearance on January 13, 2023. Recently, his family shared a heartfelt message for the first time since the incident, starting off by thanking everyone involved in the efforts to find Sands. Of the actor himself, the family wrote, “We continue to cherish Julian in our hearts, with fond recollections of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer.” The Sheriff’s Department has stated that the search for Julian Sands remains ongoing, albeit in a more limited capacity due to the challenging terrain and weather conditions in the area where he went missing. However, the department remains committed to finding Sands and bringing closure to his family and friends.
“Although missing hiker, Julian Sands, was not located during the recent search mission, the case remains active. We want to thank all the individuals who assisted in the June 17th search and the previous search missions.”

What are the facts of the Julian Sands disappearance case?
Basically, Julian Sands has been missing since January 13, 2023, after going hiking in the Baldy Bowl area of the San Gabriel Mountains, north of Los Angeles. Sands has always been an experienced hiker, but the area had been experiencing heavy snow and rain in the days leading up to his disappearance. His car was found in a parking lot near the trailhead, and his cell phone was reportedly last pinged on January 15.
Despite an extensive search involving hundreds of volunteers, law enforcement officers, and search dogs, no trace of Sands has been found. The search has been committed 8 times, along with eight other operations, which was confirmed by San Bernardino sheriffs. The search briefly paused due to horrible weather conditions but the efforts picked up again on June 17 when a massive search effort involving 80 volunteers, deputies, and staff failed to find any trace of missing actor. The search team combed through the wilderness and remote areas of the mountain using helicopters, drones, and dogs but found nothing. The case, however, still remains active.
