Lionel Richie took a cue from Milli Vanilli, blaming the rain for a last-minute cancellation of his Madison Square Garden gig. Claiming that poor weather conditions prevented him from flying into New York, the show was already running an hour late when the decision was made. This left around 20,000 disappointed attendees, including out-of-towners who had made travel and lodging arrangements.
Richie expressed his disappointment on Twitter and announced a rescheduled show for August 14, assuring fans that their tickets would still be valid.

Earth Wind and Fire is slated for a performance at the Hartford HealthCare Amphitheater in Bridgeport, Connecticut, on Monday, separate from Richie’s rescheduled New York show. It remains uncertain whether they will be able to make it to the newly arranged date in New York.
