Walker Independence’s Future Hangs in Limbo After Cancellation
Walker Independence is facing an uncertain future as it fails to secure a new platform after being canceled by The CW following its first season. Efforts to find a suitable streaming or network television home have been unsuccessful, leaving the future of this Walker prequel spinoff in doubt.
The CW’s decision to cancel the series came in May, shortly after announcing the renewal of the main series, Walker starring Jared Padalecki, for its fourth season.
“We are aggressively looking for a place that Walker: Independence can land. I think canceled is maybe the most common word used, but I think a better way to look at it is that Walker: Independence will not be on The CW next year.”

The CW’s Mixed Fate: Renewals, Cancellations, and Walker Independence’s Journey
In April, The CW faced uncertainties regarding the fate of its scripted shows. Among those at risk of cancellation were Walker: Independence, All American: Homecoming, Gotham Knights, Kung Fu, and The Winchesters. Meanwhile, Superman & Lois and Walker were likely to be renewed.
Walker Independence, a prequel set 150 years before Walker, aired for one season but couldn’t secure a new home. In contrast, Walker was renewed for a fourth season with fewer episodes. Jared Padalecki, who stars in the series, also serves as an executive producer for both Walker and Walker Independence.
The prequel features Katherine McNamara as Abby Walker, Matt Barr as Hoyt Rawlins, and Justin Johnson Cortez as Calian, an Apache tracker. Walker, on the other hand, stars Padalecki as the titular Texas Ranger and is a reboot of the popular series from the 1990s.
