Beyonce is dubbed “The Queen” for a reason. There has never been a time in my life when people have not spoken her name with reverence. While not everyone is a fan of her music, there is no denying that she has served as an inspiration to many other singer-songwriters in the industry. In her own unique way, she changed the way people perceived music. All of this to say, she has been and continues to be iconic.
So it was no surprise when she won two Grammys on the same day, making her the person with the most wins in Grammy history. I understand that people have lost faith in these types of award shows over the years, but this has been a huge boon for Beyonce. And much of it is due to her new album Renaissance, which broke numerous records and cemented her status as an industry Queen.
Beyonce is now the most-awarded person in history.
Georg Solti, the former music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, previously held this honour. He also received a Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996, bringing his total number of awards to 31.
As you might expect, Beyonce became emotional while accepting the Grammys and couldn’t believe what was happening. It was clear to the global audience that this meant a lot to her. Especially after fans believed she had been snubbed at the previous Awards show when Adelle won the nominations instead of her album Lemonade.
I’m trying not to be too emotional, and I’m trying to just receive this night. I want to thank God for protecting me. I’d like to thank my uncle Johnny, who’s not here, but he’s here in spirit. I’d like to thank my parents, my father, my mother for loving me and pushing me.
I’d like to thank my beautiful husband, my beautiful three children who are at home watching. I’d like to thank the queer community for your love and for inventing this genre.
