‘Apex’: Apple TV+ Offers A First-Look At Brad Pitt’s Formula One Movie!

Apple TV+ has revealed the title of its upcoming Formula One film starring Brad Pitt. The film, which was previously untitled, will now be called Apex. The streamer has also provided a first-look image of the film on social media, exciting fans worldwide. The film is set to use no CGI for its racing sequences, instead opting for practical effects. This is a rare decision in Hollywood where CGI is often used to enhance or even create racing footage, and with decision the filmmakers hope to create a more visceral and immersive experience for viewers.

Who is involved in this Formula One feature?

Apex will be directed by Oblivion filmmaker Joseph Kosinski and co-stars Snowfall star Damson Idris alongside Brad Pitt. Kosinski is known for his work on films such as Tron: Legacy and Top Gun: Maverick and is a skilled visual filmmaker with a keen eye for action sequences. Brad Pitt is one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, and his involvement in the project is a major coup for Apple. Idris is a rising star who has been praised for his work on HBO’s Watchmen and ofcourse, Snowfall.  Tobias Menzies and Oscar-nominee Kerry Condon will also be starring. Many actual Formula One racers are set to make cameos in this film as well. There will be scarcely any use of CGI according to Kosinski and will be filmed at the Grand Prix.

“It’s almost funny to me to see people who are so enamored with real photography. Younger people haven’t seen a lot of it. They’re so used to CGI (computer-generated images) being a tool of big movies that when you shoot something for real, it feels innovative That’s exactly the approach for [Apex]… to shoot at the real races and real cars and capture it. It’s going to be a huge challenge but an exciting one for me.”

The film will be produced by Joseph Kosinski, Jerry Bruckheimer, and Chad Oman of Jerry Bruckheimer Films. This reunion of the creative team behind Top Gun: Maverick is sure to be exciting for fans of the film. Seven-time Formula One champion Sir Lewis Hamilton will also produce the film through his Dawn Apollo banner and Plan B, while Copper CEO Penni Thow will serve as executive producer. It will be directed following a script by Ehren Kruger, who also wrote Top Gun: Maverick and Dumbo.

Young up-and-coming driver Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris) has the potential to be a champion, but he lacks experience. When Sonny sees Joshua racing, he is impressed by his potential and decides to come out of retirement to mentor him and the two form an unlikely partnership. With Sonny as a wise and experienced mentor and Joshua as a talented and eager driver who is also hotheaded and reckless, the two drivers will have to learn to work together if they want to achieve their goals.

Apex is a story about mentorship, redemption, and the pursuit of excellence. It is a film about two drivers who must overcome their personal challenges and work together to achieve their dreams. THR reported that the movie will not have a limited theatrical release or a day-and-date opening. Instead, it will have an exclusive global run of at least 30 days before being released on Apple TV+,with one source claiming that the run could be as long as 60 days.
