While reminiscing on her supposed dispute with Selena Gomez, Francia Raísa cleared the air regaring recent allegations that she was “forced” to give a kidney to the singer. The two actresses met in 2007 while Selena was still working for Disney and Raisa was on ABC’s The Secret Life of the American Teenager, and hit it off instantly. In 2017, Gomez was diagnosed with lupus and needed a kidney transplant and Raísa volunteered to be her donor, with the surgery ending up to be successful. Now in a podcast, Raísa talks about the rumored “beef” and the kidney donation process.
Why did the rumors of Selena Gomez and Francia Raísa falling out surface?
As Selena fought lupus, an autoimmune and inflammatory condition that may lead to organ failure, the How I Met Your Father actress gave one of her kidneys to the pop sensation. While the transplant proved successful, reports of a feud between the two circulated last year when Selena referred to Taylor Swift as her “only friend in the industry.” Other than this, Gomez also failed to mention Raísa in her Apple TV+ documentary, My Mind & Me. The internet subsequently went crazy with rumors that Francia hadn’t truly consented to give her kidney, but had been forced to do so in order to save Selena. After E! News included the first part of the phrase in an Instagram post hailing Swift and Gomez’s relationship, Raisa allegedly added “Interesting” under the post before deleting it.
What did Francia say about this alleged feud?
The Grown-ish star said that “never in my life did I picture” an organ donation would cause such a commotion and would end up becoming internet fodder. “I’ve said it before, but that was a time when I just felt it in my heart,” Francia revealed on the Good Guys podcast’s August 1 episode. “No one forced me to do anything. It came out of the genuine kindness of my heart, and I’ve been super blessed ever since.” Regarding her supposed quarrel with Selena, the actress stated flatly, “There’s no beef.”
