Stranger Things Sets Records, Pays Tribute to Terminator
Netflix announced in February 2022 that the fifth season of “Stranger Things” would be its last. The fourth season, which premiered in May 2022, became a massive hit, breaking records as Netflix’s most-watched season of any English-language series. It garnered a remarkable 1.35 billion hours of viewing in just 28 days and remained in Netflix’s top 10 rankings for 19 weeks.
“Stranger Things” has a knack for honoring 1980s pop culture, including subtle nods to “The Terminator.” Although not directly related to Linda Hamilton’s character, the show introduced a character named Grigori (played by Andrey Ivchenko) in season three, who resembled Arnold Schwarzenegger’s cyborg assassin. Cary Elwes’ character even humorously referred to Grigori as “Arnold Schwarzenegger” at one point. These playful references showcase the series’ admiration for the influential film.

Linda Hamilton, known for her role in the 1980s classic “Terminator,” joins the star-studded cast of “Stranger Things” for its final season.
