The BBC reports the latest on MHD’s murder trial, where the 29-year-old rapper, real name Mohamed Sylla, was convicted of participation in the fatal attack of a 23-year-old man named Loic K in 2018. The French court heard that the victim was struck by MHD’s car, a Mercedes, and beaten and stabbed by a group of up to 12 people. Sylla denied the charges. Five co-defendants were convicted, while three were acquitted.

A news agency called AFP has reported that the rapper said to the court, “From the beginning, I have maintained my innocence in this case and I will continue to maintain my innocence.” He claimed he was not present at the crime site and that the evidence against him was based on rumors. A nearby resident’s footage recorded from the window of his home was used against him, and the fact that MHD was recognized by other witnesses was also taken into account.
