Mortal Kombat has been a mainstay in gaming history for a long time, and people used to gasp at how brutal it was, even though the older Mortal Kombats don’t even come close to what is available today in gaming. However, it did change the way we look at fighting games, and it has remained one of the top fighting games for a reason.
While most people don’t play Mortal Kombat for the story, the new iteration promises to reimagine most, if not all, of the game’s characters and usher in a new era of Mortal Kombat. This was something that had to be done for both new and old fans. While we did get a lot of information about when it would be released through leaks, we now have an official release date as well as a spectacular CGI trailer that shows some of our favorite characters in a new and unique form.
Mortal Kombat 1 is set to be released on September 19th.
The story will pick up immediately after the DLC for Mortal Kombat 11 where Kronika was finally defeated, and there will be a lot of time travel shenanigans involved, but that is exactly what has allowed NetherRealm to stray away from the formulaic approach to their Mortal Kombat franchise and bring in something new.
We will see both old and new fighters, as well as many new mechanics, the most notable of which is something called Kameo, which will allow players to receive assistance during battles from a diverse roster of partners. Little is known about this new power, but it is certain to be intriguing. And we can’t talk about Mortal Kombat without mentioning the fatalities, and from what we’ve seen, they’re better and bloodier than ever, so fans should be happy.
Mortal Kombat 1 will be available for the Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S on September 19th.
