In an interview with BBC Radio’s Desert Island Discs, Stanley Tucci has finally shared the details about his initial hesitation to date his wife, Felicity Blunt, due to their 21-year age gap. “I kept trying to break it off,” Tucci began. “I’m 21 years older than she is and I didn’t want to feel old for the rest of my life!” However, the story has a happy ending as Tucci eventually realized that Blunt was “an incredibly special person” and that their age difference should not be barrier to their joy.
Stanley’s first wife, Kate Tucci, passed away due to breast cancer in 2009, leaving him hesitant to get into another relationship. In the end, Blunt’s companionship turned out to be a healing presence for him and his three children from his first marriage: 23-year-old twins Isabel and Nicolo and 21-year-old daughter Camilla.

The actor first met his future wife at the 2006 premiere of The Devil Wears Prada, in which he starred alongside Emily Blunt, Felicity’s sister. Kate was alive at that time but tragically passed a few years later in 2009. The two crossed paths again at Emily and John Krasinski’s 2010 wedding when Tucci was mourning his first wife. Two years later, Stanley and Felicity tied the knot themselves! Afterwards the couple welcomed a daughter who they named Emilia (5) and a son, Matteo (8).
“It is not easy to find somebody who is going to take on three teenagers and a widower,” Stanley commented in 2017 to The Guardian. “That’s a lot. But she was willing to take on that challenge. She cares for the kids as if they are her own, and it is a tough role, being a step-parent.”
