‘The Flash’, an American sci-fi superhero drama film starring Ezra Miller, came out in theatres on June 23, 2023. How did ‘The Flash’ do on its second weekend at the box office?
Twitter user Luis Fernando has brought to our attention that ‘The Flash’ managed to cross the $200 million mark globally including the amount from its second weekend, but it could also potentially lose the same amount. It’s highly likely actually, since the $200 million budget DC film saw a 72% drop off at the U.S box office. Keeping in mind the fact that it had a $150 million marketing budget. paired with a $190 million production budget; Fernando commented that this movie might go down as the worst financial disaster since 2017’s ‘Justice League’. In addition to that, Fernando and many other users agree that Warner Bros. Discovery could have lost way less money if they had put ‘The Flash’ straight to Max instead of a giving it a theatrical release.
It is estimated that Warner Bros. will need to collect at least $400 million in worldwide box office revenue to break even, since studios typically only receive about half of the revenue from ticket sales in the United States, and a slightly lower percentage of revenue from ticket sales in other countries. ‘The Flash’ will have to generate more than $400 million soon to even begin to churn a profit for the studio, otherwise it will go down in history as another catastrophic financial failure for DC.
What are the possible reasons for ‘The Flash’ being such a theatrical flop?
