Co-hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sunny Hostin “sparred” so much during the ‘Hot Topics’ segment over politics on ‘The View’, Whoopi Goldberg was forced to cut to a commercial break to ease the tension. For the second day in a week, this ABC talk show has made headlines over their heated debates as the presidential elections inch closer by the minute.
How did it start?
It all started when everyone was discussing the Republican primary candidates running for president including Mike Pence, for whom Alyssa Farah Griffin used to work for when he was Vice President under the Trump administration, and Chris Christie. During that conversation, Alyssa mentioned that she wasn’t sure who to vote for, and wanted to hear more from Mike Pence. Later on, Sunny brought up this point accusingly saying “What scares me, Alyssa, is that you are incapable of defending a man that you worked for, that you know of. I don’t need to hear more from Pence, for several reasons.” Alyssa going on the defensive, replied commenting “You just accused me of something, so why don’t you let me actually answer? You’re not going to vote for a Republican, ever.”

What happened further was that Sunny started going on a rant about Pence having a “terrible approval rating because of the way he treated the AIDS crisis”. She said it was awful and that “a lot of people died because of him” and also because of how he handled the COVID crisis, labelling him incompetent. While she was still speaking, Alyssa took a jab by reminding her that she “defended Cornel West yesterday, who’s destroying our country”. Offended, Sunny cut Alyssa off by reminding her that she wasn’t done speaking just as Joy Behar joined in to tell Sunny to not “make it personal”. To that Alyssa commented that “Sunny likes to make it personal with me”.
Next, Alyssa started speaking about how absurd this was, going on to say that “This is not what this show is about. This is Barbara Walters’ legacy, let a woman speak.” At this point, Sunny kept talking but apparently no one was listening which prompted Alyssa to get heated and say “Are you just going to keep going?” and with tension high, Goldberg interjected and sent the show into a commercial break.
“Why do I feel like I need to go to break right now? Because I can’t hear anybody saying anything. Maybe we just need to figure out how we do this again. Let’s have this break and figure out how we’re going to make this work.”

As Whoopi explained why she had to get into a break, Alyssa is heard saying “What a disgrace”. When the show returned, everyone looked very calm and they each had a turn speaking to wrap up their points. Now ‘The View’ fans vow to boycott the show unless Sunny Hostin is fired after her fiery clash with Alyssa Griffin.
