Summer Game Fest (SGF) has become a much-anticipated event for gamers worldwide. It gives us a sneak peek into exciting upcoming games from both big-name studios and emerging developers. While the focus is often on the popular franchises, SGF also shines a light on smaller titles.
One such event is the Day of the Devs, where members of the media, had the unique opportunity to sit down with talented developers and experience demos of upcoming indie games.
Among these games, three stood out with their different gameplay styles and eye-catching visuals: Beastieball, Viewfinder, and Hauntii.
Viewfinder: A Unique Puzzle Adventure
Viewfinder by Sad Owl Studios is an intriguing first-person puzzle game reminiscent of Portal. Armed with a powerful camera, players can capture and manipulate the environment to redefine the landscape. This visually distinct and abstract experience offers inventive approaches to solving challenges.
With a focus on experimentation rather than tension, Viewfinder encourages players to create platforms, unlock new paths, and explore different puzzle-solving strategies. A demo is already available, giving players a taste of what’s to come. Look forward to the full release of Viewfinder on July 18 for PS5, for this one-of-a-kind puzzle adventure.
Beastieball: Monster Volleyball with a Personal Touch
Beastieball by Wishes Unlimited offers a fresh twist to turn-based RPG enthusiasts. Drawing inspiration from games like Pokemon and Paper Mario, Beastieball introduces players to a world of colorful creatures. Rather than traditional battles, players engage these creatures in exhilarating games of volleyball to recruit them. Victories not only grant experience but also open doors to new squad members.
What sets Beastieball apart is its focus on fostering interpersonal relationships. Players’ training and choices shape rivalries, friendships, and even romances among the recruited Beasties, adding a unique touch to each player’s experience. With its unique mechanics, Beastieball promises to shine when it launches in 2024!
Hauntii: A Mesmerizing Ghostly Adventure
Hauntii by Moonloop Games combines stunning visuals with engaging gameplay. Set in a monochromatic afterlife, players embark on a thrilling adventure as a new ghost in a perilous forest. With enemies to defeat, lurking monsters to avoid, and a mysterious golden force to follow, Hauntii stands out among its peers.
A standout feature of Hauntii is its possession mechanic, allowing players to control the environment and solve inventive puzzles. The game’s stunning visuals, utilizing a simplistic art style to depict a vast world, further enhance the experience. Scheduled for release in 2024 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC, Hauntii promises an unforgettable ghostly adventure.
