In a somber announcement, the world mourns the loss of Marvin Kitman, an esteemed television critic and celebrated author. For an impressive span of 35 years, Kitman graced the pages of Newsday, offering insightful critiques that captivated readers.

His expertise extended beyond television, as Kitman also gained recognition for his in-depth exploration of George Washington’s financial situation. At the Actors Fund Home in Englewood, N.J., Kitman passed away at the age of 93 after battling cancer, according to his son.

Marvin Kitman made his mark as a prominent writer and critic, commencing his journey with Newsday in December 1969. Over the course of an astounding 35 years, he penned an impressive 5,786 columns, captivating readers with his insightful musings. Notably, he was a Pulitzer Prize finalist for criticism in 1982. Kitman bid farewell to Newsday with his last column published on April 1, 2005.

Beyond his role as a television critic, Kitman authored notable books, including the highly acclaimed “George Washington’s Expense Account.” In this nonfiction work, Kitman collaborated with Washington as a coauthor, adopting the name Marvin Kitman, Pfc. (Ret.), and revealing the intricate details of the iconic general’s personal and military expenditures.

Marvin Kitman’s literary journey spanned various captivating works. From “The Number One Best Seller: The True Adventures of Marvin Kitman” in 1966 to his final publication, “Gullible’s Travels: A Comical History of the Trump Era” in 2020, his writings showcased his wit and satirical perspective.

In a surprising twist, Kitman challenged expectations with “The Man Who Would Not Shut Up: The Rise of Bill O’Reilly” in 200. This marked a departure for a writer with liberal leanings who had initially launched his career with a leftist publication, demonstrating his versatility as a writer.

Survived by his wife, Carolyne Sibushnick, children Jamie, Suzy Kitman, and A.J. Knight, as well as three grandchildren, Marvin Kitman’s diverse literary contributions will be remembered and celebrated.
