Paramount+’s Brutal Move of Cancelling ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’ Leaves Creator Devastated

Paramount+ Cancels 'Grease Rise of the Pink Ladies'

In a particularly brutal move that has left fans and creators reeling, Paramount+ has dealt a severe blow to the series “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies.” Annabel Oakes, the creator of the show, now left shattered, has expressed her profound disappointment and disbelief as the streaming platform not only canceled the series but also made the decision to remove it entirely from their lineup.

This shocking decision comes in conjunction with the cancellation of several other original shows, such as “Star Trek: Prodigy,” “Queen of the Universe,” and “The Game.”

Paramount+ Abruptly Cancels ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,’ Leaving Fans Disappointed

“Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” a highly-anticipated prequel series to the classic movie, premiered on April 6 and concluded in early June. It was part of Paramount+’s lineup of series based on their movie properties, which included “Fatal Attraction” and the miniseries “The Offer” about the making of The Godfather. Paramount+ has also announced upcoming series adaptations of “Flashdance,” “The Italian Job,” “Love Story,” and “The Parallax View.”

Set four years before the original Grease, the prequel series explores the rebellious adventures of four outcasts in 1954, before the rise of rock ‘n’ roll and the cool T-Birds. Unfortunately, Paramount+ has decided to cancel the show, along with several other original series.

Creator Annabel Oakes served as showrunner and executive producer, with Marty Bowen, Adam Fishbach, Alethea Jones, Erik Feig, Samie Kim Falvey, and Grace Gilroy also in executive producer roles.

Fans and the cast, including Marisa Davila, Cheyenne Isabel Wells, Ari Notartomaso, Tricia Fukuhara, Shanel Bailey, Madison Thompson, Johnathan Nieves, Jason Schmidt, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper, and Jackie Hoffman, are left disappointed by this sudden development.

Creator Annabel Oakes Expresses Devastation Over Paramount+’s Decision

Annabel Oakes, the creator of “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” took to Instagram to share her reaction to Paramount+’s decision.

“In a particularly brutal move, it is also being removed from @paramountplus next and unless it finds a new home you will no longer be able to watch it anywhere. The cast, my creative partners, and I are all devastated at the complete erasure of our show.”

Oakes thanked the supportive fans and urged them to watch the show before its removal.

Despite this setback, there is still hope as Paramount Television Studios plans to seek other broadcasters and streamers for the series.
