Simon West’s Historic Drama ‘Antara’: Details Unveiled
Filmmaker Simon West, known for “Con-Air” and “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider,” has chosen Saudi Arabia’s Neom as the location for his upcoming historical drama, “Antara.” This true-story-based film follows Antara ibn Shaddad, a sixth-century warrior celebrated as both a knight and poet.

Co-produced by Alexander Amartei and Stuart Sutherland, who previously worked on “Kandahar,” the production is set for a 12-week stay in Neom, capitalizing on the region’s 40% cash rebate. West aims to share Antara’s lesser-known legend while boosting the burgeoning local film industry.
Neom Attracts International Productions, Boosting Local Opportunities
Wayne Borg, Managing Director of Media Industries, Entertainment, and Culture at Neom, views the arrival of international productions like Antara as a sign of increasing confidence among film producers in the region. These productions not only contribute to Neom’s growth but also offer valuable experience to Saudi talent.

Upcoming productions in Neom include MBC’s “Exceptional,” a 200-episode TV series, and “Hobal,” a Saudi feature film by director Abdulaziz Alshlahei. Additionally, a partnership with Telfaz aims to create up to nine TV and film productions in the coming years.
