VES Founder Award & Lifetime VES Membership Recipients Announced!

In an event slated to take place during October, Tim McGovern, an Oscar winner for the VFX of the 1990 classic Total Recall and a founding member of the Visual Effects Society, will be honored with the VES Founders Award. During the same ceremony, McGovern, along with Sandra Joy Aguilar, Brooke Breton, and Bob Coleman, will also be bestowed lifetime membership in the Visual Effects Society.

VFX ‘Total Recall’ Oscar Winner: Tim McGovern

Tim McGovern, a pioneer in the world of digital visual effects, is a founding member of Sony Pictures ImageWorks and currently works at DNEG Mumbai, while also acting as chief creative officer at Whisper Pictures, a development and production company focused on animated family films. Having served on the VES board for the past two decades, which includes his time as vice chair and founding co-chair of the VES Awards committee, McGovern continues to play a significant role in fostering creativity and innovation within the field of digital effects.

Who is going to be awarded lifetime membership of the VES?

Sandra Joy Aguilar, Brooke Breton, and Bob Coleman, recipients of this year’s lifetime membership prize, are all extremely accomplished professionals in the field of visual effects. Aguilar currently oversees metadata and indexing at University of Southern California’s Shoah Foundation, serves as a consultant for the forthcoming VES Roth Museum of Visual Effects, and is involved in the Motion Picture Academy’s Science and Technology Council. Breton, on the other hand, played a pivotal role in launching the VFX company Digital Domain, served as senior vice president of production, and has contributed to the Academy Museum’s focus on modern filmmaking techniques.

Bob Coleman contributed to the world of visual effects and filmmaking immensely and founded Digital Artists Agency. He also held senior leadership roles at Lucas Arts, Skywalker Sound, and Virgin Digital Studios, and has been actively involved in the VES board and chaired the award committee for 9 years.
